These tables outline the phonics and word knowledge introduced in our first six sets of Fitzroy Readers. They show the progression of skills—from simple CVC words to more complex spelling patterns, morphology, and irregular sight words.
Each table lists the words, spelling patterns, and high-frequency sight words unique to that set of Fitzroy Readers. They do not repeat words introduced in earlier sets, include words from the list at the back of each Reader, or words introduced in the corresponding Fitzroy Word Skills workbook.
Teachers can use these tables to identify the phonics and word knowledge skills introduced in each set of Fitzroy Readers, and to plan their lessons.
For best results, we recommend using the Fitzroy Word Skills workbooks alongside the Fitzroy Readers to practise and consolidate these phonics and word knowledge skills.
