The tables below outline the phonics and word knowledge introduced in our first six sets of Fitzroy Readers. They show the progression of skills - from simple CVC words to more complex spelling patterns, morphology, and irregular sight words.
Each table lists the words, spelling patterns, and high-frequency sight words unique to that set of Fitzroy Readers. They do not repeat words introduced in earlier sets.
Teachers can use these tables to identify the phonics and word knowledge skills introduced in each set of Fitzroy Readers, and to plan their lessons.
For best results, we recommend using the Fitzroy Word Skills workbooks alongside the Fitzroy Readers to practise and consolidate these phonics and word knowledge skills.
The tables make it easy to see where Fitzroy Readers resources fit into the recommended progression of phonics knowledge, spelling patterns, high-frequency words, and decodable texts in the Victorian Phonics Plus Scope and Sequence for Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2.
