Fitzroy Readers are a systematic, synthetic, evidence-based collection of phonics resources for the explicit instruction and teaching of English.
The App presents the Fitzroy Readers with extra phonics features to promote strong foundations in reading and spelling. Three sets of Fitzroy Readers are currently available in the App: sets 1-10, 11-20 & 21-30. You can access these sets with a monthly or yearly subscription.
Students can read the stories themselves, or read along with the clear narration. Each word is underlined as it is spoken to show the connection between how words are spelt and how they are said.
When you tap on an individual word, you will hear it sounded out (phonically decoded) while each sound is highlighted. Word elements are highlighted in different colours to indicate letter sounds, digraphs, silent letters and sight words - showing the relationship between letters and sounds (graphemes and phonemes). In this way students become familiar with spelling conventions as well as exceptions. You can also change the font size and reading speed to suit your needs.
